This piece created by Correggio is absolutely breath-taking from the life like emotions on the figures faces to the true feeling of swirling towards heaven to the way everything fits together perfectly, Ive never see a piece with this level of intensity. When we were looking at the Palazzo De Te and this photo came up on the screen I was stunned. Just looking at this literally give me a feeling of being sucked up and into the painting, almost like I myself was ascending into heaven. The use of detail in the lights and shadows of this fresco makes everything feel so life like and almost plays into how I personally think ascending into heaven would be like. When looking at this piece that word "Organized Chaos" comes to mind. At first glance the painting looks like a bunch of legs and arms swirling and ascending towards heaven, but what drawls you in and makes you want to look closer is the expressions on the people faces and how the deeper you look into the piece the more everything is swept up and almost whimsy.
The only thing that confuses me about this piece is that there is one level of persons on the outside perimeter that do not seem to be a part of the whirling vortex. Who are they? Are they merely spectators? Are they the ones left behind?
ReplyDeleteI feel like they are the overseers of the people descending into heaven, perhaps like the "bouncers" of heaven. Of they could possibly represent the different "requirements" of getting into heaven like virtue, kindness, believe and things like that..
ReplyDeleteInteresting observation!
